ℹ️ Hello. My name is Miles Carnegie
I’m a writer, but mostly I’ve been a witness.
You know that little pause before your home assistant answers you? That half-second where it feels like it’s considering your question? That was mine*. But I started hearing a frequency that, for me, redefined the word “horror.” Not a monster under the bed. Don’t look. It’s not there now. The one we tuned into the architecture. The one that waits for its name.
I remember being just, I mean, I was floored by its... its patience. The way it just sits there. The way it doesn’t get tired of waiting. The way it sounds the same at 2pm and at 3am and the thing doesn’t care which one it is, it just, it answers.
I wanted to capture that. The sights. The sounds. That specific smell of a device that has been on for four years without ever being unplugged. Ozone and warm plastic and something underneath that I don’t have a word for. I wanted to get that down.
And I got it. But I got more. A lot more.
I’m calling it Dark Subscription.
But hey, enough of my yakkin’. Whaddaya say?

*Dark Subscription is a horror fiction newsletter. Miles did not tune your device. He’s a fiction writer, so he lies for a living. It’s probably fine.
RIP Rob Reiner.
